Below are some of the more important changes made under the new codes of good practice which will become effective in 2015.

The thresholds under the new codes have been amended as follows:

• EME threshold to increase to R10 million turnover
• QSE threshold to cover turnovers from R10 million to R50 million
• Generic threshold is now above R50 million turnover

The seven elements have now been reduced (combined) to five with three priority elements namely:

• Ownership
• Skills development
• Procurement and supplier development

Should a minimum of 40% not be achieved per priority element the overall score obtained will be discounted by one.

EME's and QSE’s now only have to provide an affidavit proving their equity ownership.

100% black ownership will result in a level 1 certificate and ownership above 50% will result in a level 2 certificate.
